Shiatsu & Fascial Release Bodywork with Ruth Lander

About me

I’m fascinated by anatomy: the way our bodies move, the patterns we get stuck in and what we can do to change that. I also love connecting with people and that’s why I love bodywork.

I qualified in shiatsu at the British School of Shiatsu Do in London in 2005 and gained a level 4 diploma in Sports Injuries and Massage from the APNT in 2008. In 2023 I studied for a diploma in Fascia Informed Bodywork at the School of Bodywork in Exeter.

For over 10 years I specialized in working with climbers and sports injuries at the Castle Climbing Centre in North London, where I co-ran ClimbersClinic.

Since moving to Torquay in 2021, I have become increasingly interested in the latest developments in the science around Fascia (or connective tissue) and its huge role in the body. It is completely changing the way in which we must look at anatomy and injury and consequently it has changed how I approach treatment.

I am constantly developing my skills and deepening my fascination with bodywork through ongoing study.

Previously and now

I studied sculpture at Goldsmiths University in London and went on to have various sculpture related jobs, working in a sculpture casting foundry, a TV props department, model making and, finally, as a specialist decorator for a number of years - until I became very allergic to paint. This was what initially led me to begin my studies in bodywork, where I discovered an area of work that is totally fascinating as well as being deeply rewarding.

I still enjoy being creative and spent a number of years doing printmaking, but most recently I have started painting, which feels like an exciting new development.

Since moving to Torquay, you will also find me sea swimming and walking my lovely dog, Miso, a beautiful little Bedlington Whippet cross.
